1.
Start Windows Backup by going under the Start menu and
choosing All Program Files\Accessories\System Tools\ Backup.
Note
If you are
not presented with the Welcome screen below uncheck the Always
start in Wizard mode option and close and restart Backup. |

Click the Schedule
Jobs tab. |

Click the Add
Job button |
|
4.
At the Welcome screen,
click Next > |
|
5.
On the Backup or Restore
screen select “Back up selected files, drives, or network data”
and click
Next > |

6.
On the Items to Back up
screen, expand “Microsoft Exchange Server” and expand the server you
wish to backup. |

7.
Check the box in front of
“Microsoft Information Store” and click Next > |
|

8.
On the Backup Type,
Destination, and Name screen click Browse… |
|
 |
|
9.
Navigate to the location
where you want to save your Exchange backup data. |
|
10.
Change the File name
to “Daily Exchange Backup.bkf” and click Save.

11.
Verify the path of the backup and click Next > |

12.
On the Type of Backup
screen select “Normal” and click Next >
Note
If your entire Normal or Full
backup of you Exchange server can be completed within your
backup window it is suggested that you do a Normal backup every
night. Otherwise, a Normal backup should be scheduled to run
once a week and a Differential should be ran daily. |

(optional) On the How to
Back Up screen, check “Verify data after backup” and click
Next > |

14.
On the Backup Options
screen, select “Replace the existing backups” and click
Next >
Note
This should only be done if you
have another backup procedure that will be backing up the
Exchange backup files (BKF) before the next scheduled Exchange
backup. If this isn’t the case, scheduled tasks should be used
to rename the backup files for the day they were created or
seven separate scheduled backup jobs should be created that save
the backup file for each day to a different file. |

On the When to Back Up
screen, enter “Daily Exchange Backup” in the Job name box
and then click Set Schedule… |

On the Scheduled Job
dialogs choose “Daily” for Schedule Task and select a Start
time based on your backup window and when any other backups
maybe running.
Note
If you are using another Windows
NT Backup job or other method to backup the Exchange backup
files to another location or media, you need to make sure that
the two backup jobs or methods don’t conflict. You do not want
Windows NT Backup trying to write to a backup file at the same time
another method is trying to copy it to another server or back it
up to tape. |

Click OK to save
changes. |

18.
At the Set Account
Information dialog enter an account that has Full Exchange Admin
and local Administrator rights to the Exchange server being
backed up and click OK.
Note
It is HIGHLY suggested that you
create a dedicated account for carrying out Exchange backups and
store the complex password for it in a safe place. |

Click Next >
on the When to Back Up screen |
|

20.
Re-enter the backup
account information again and click OK. |
|

21.
At the completion screen,
click Finish |
|

22.
Confirm that scheduled
backups are shown correctly on the Schedule Jobs calendar. |

Close the Windows NT
Backup |
