Adding a Link to the IT Site
Now that a site exist under the root level site, we should
make it easy for user?s to find it.? Using the steps below you can add a link
on the main site, http://<DNS name for the SharePoint server>, to the
newly created IT site.
1. If
you are still on the IT site, click on ?Up to Company Portal? in the upper left
hand corner
2. On
the root site, click Add new link under ?Links?
3. Enter
?http://<DNS name for the SharePoint server>/IT?
4. Enter
in ?IT Site? for the description
5. Click Save and Close when done
Conclusion
By using SharePoint, an organization can provide greater
access to files and information without increasing the overhead of the IT
department.? SharePoint also allows departments to collaborate in a more
efficient manner with a greater flexibility of how information is stored,
shared, and edited.? WSS is provided for free by Microsoft without the need for
any coding.? The basics of SharePoint can be mastered in a few days by simply
creating test sites, lists, document libraries, and other web parts and seeing
what the various options and setting do.
