| Missing New Mail Notifications |
| Submitted by Richard Dann rjgd@norsk-data.co.uk |
| The commonly known cause for new mail
notifications not appearing is routers that block UDP packets from the
server to the client. As the port is chosen by the client it becomes
impossible to filter UDP packets without loosing new mail notifications. I
had a case where I could prove the routers were not a problem as I was
seeing occurrences on the LAN local to the server and I could make the
problem disappear temporarily by restarting the IS. After talking to PSS
for 4 1/2 months (on and off) we found two problems.
Q258698 which cures a problem with the Proxy Server that
corrupted the UDP port number. This resulted in the push notification
cache increasing in size with hardly anything getting released. This was
the predominant issue in my case.
Q272274, which is part of the post SP4 bundle of IS
fixes (Q282533) handles a problem where cache entries get orphaned.
Apparently in an extreme case this could crash the IS, it didn't get that
far for me, but I could see the build up of entries via Performance
Monitor.
Both fixes are available from PSS . |
