| Scanmail and TMP files |
| Submitted by Richard Dann rjgd@norsk-data.co.uk |
| Those of you running Scanmail 3.51 might
like to check your smex\temp directories. I recently found mine had over
50000 .TMP files, mainly empty, and the number was growing at about 3000 a
day, which impacted backups. On reporting this to Trend I got a very
prompt reply from their support indicating this was the result of a memory
leak and supplying a fix in the form of a new version of library
SMXMAPI.DLL. The fix has proved good for me, I'm not sure if its in their
knowledge base but you can always get it from their support team.
I run my scanner in MAPI + AVAPI mode, my belief is that the problem is
related to MAPI mode scanning.
BTW the reason it was noticed was the backups, the
files may have been empty but a backup program still has to process them. |
