FDR Innovations Upstream
Reader comments compiled by Mitch Tulloch
We use FDR Innovations Upstream product. It is not a product for everyone as we back up all of our network to mainframe tapes. It is a very slick and easy product to use. I have never had better technical support on ANY other product than what I get from this group of people!

Haven't used that! Do you have the URL for their web site?

What's the reason you decided on that solution?

Mitch

Their url is www.innovationdp.fdr.com

We use this software since we can pipe much more data in a faster time period to the mainframe tapes than we can send to individual tapes on each of our servers or to a backup server system. It is a simple product to use and totally automated. No one has to pop in tapes to a tape drive. We have about 70 systems on a WAN and we backup over a TB on the weekends right now.

We don't have to worry about needing any more hardware or tapes as our network grows to allow for additional backups. We just install the software on a new server and add it to the mainframe job list. This software backs up all of our exchange system as well as all SQL databases too. It can backup all of our operating systems which include NT, 2000, Unix, and Novell. All tapes are handled the same way any other mainframe tape system is handled including movement of tapes to off-site storage. Special backups become a breeze to handle or to keep for auditing purposes.

To understand how much support they can give us; when we first installed a MS clustered system, we couldn't find anything to back it up. We had told Innovation that we were going to install this operating system and wanted to use their product on it. They immediately began working on this issue.

They sent us the software to run on a clustered system before their next release was scheduled to come out since they knew we were ready for it. It was then included with their next release. There are not many, if any, companies that will do this for their customers!
