OWA Time Zones?

By Drew Nicholson, dnicholson@OutlookExchange.com

Time Zones in Outlook Web Access

A client company was having problems in the calendar view of OWA. Appointments were showing up on the wrong days, at the wrong time. However, if the user looked at the calendar in Outlook, the Appointments were in the proper places. There weren't any errors in the event log, and it appeared to be random at first glance.

I searched Technet but couldn't find anything related (perhaps because of a bad search string? I dunno...). Exchange was at SP3, NT was at SP6a, IIS was OK. I feared that the problems were related to corrupted ASP pages that display the calendar and was prepared for a complete rebuild of the OWA box. Then I had a thought.

I knew that you could change passwords directly in OWA and wondered what else could be done in that section. So I clicked on the Options icon and scrolled down.

Well, look at that. You can set the current time zone in your OWA "client" independantly of your desktop.

I consider this to be something that should be removed from OWA -- but it's possible some people think it's useful. But if your users' screen resolutions are low, they may never scroll down to see it.

Here's another OWA Tip, as a bonus:

  • To set the default domain for the Exchange virtual directory so your OWA users don't have to log in as domain\username, go to exch virtual directory properties\dir security\annon access and auth - edit\ in the IIS MMC.
