Let assume the Global
Address List (GAL) of your company consists of more than 1000 email
addresses and a lot of partner’s email addresses. These email addresses
change everyday. How to update Address Book in this case if your Outlook
is connected to Exchange server with POP3 or IMAP4? In this article, we
will explain one way to provide such an address book to these types of
users.
When you connect to
Exchange server using MAPI the users list is accessible through the
regularly updated Global Address List (GAL). Exchange 2000 keeps the
user’s information like First name, Last name and Email address in
Active Directory. You can export these data to the text file using
different tools, offered by Microsoft. Review these articles:
These tools do not
allow you to receive finished file for simple import in Address book. If
your Outlook is connected with POP3/IMAP4 to the Exchange server it
means that you have to update Address Book manually using Import/Export
wizard in Outlook. As the practice shows, the simplest way to do it is
to import information from comma separated file. For example:
Last name, First name, E-mail address
The import/export
wizard is using comma as separator by default. That is why Outlook and
Outlook Express import this file without problems. The problem is to
prepare CSV file automatically and import it to Address Book.,
