Redeployment Procedure

1. Export GAL in a Tab-delimited format, include DL Lists

Open the Exchange Administrator program. Use the Tools, Directory Export selection to create the file.

Select the options as indicated to the left on this page. All options should match except for the first field. Change the Separator to Tab Delimited. Click OK to return to the screen. Click export to create the file.

2. Re-Run the report to document the number of items and size of each mailbox.

3. Verify that all of the Exchange connector settings have been documented.

4. Use the EXMERGE application to create a two-step merge of the mailboxes. Exmerge requires that some type of Windows messaging be installed. Outlook 2000 will not work for this process. Find a Windows NT machine with Outlook 97 or Outlook 98. Log into the Windows NT computer as the Exchange service account. Launch EXMERGE.EXE to start the application and click Next to continue.

Select the second step for a Two Step Merge. Select Step 1 and click Next

Enter the current server information so that the application can connect to the server. Click Next to continue. Next, you will see a list of the mailboxes to export. Use the Select All button to see the total amount of disk space required for the migration. This step is purely optional and provided only as a secondary backup for mailboxes.

This process can take several hours at approximately 1GB per hour. PST files are created for each mailbox. A status screen will indicate the end of the job as well as any information in regards to errors, etc.

5. Create Manual backups of the DIR, PUB and PRIV.EDB files. Stop the Exchange Services on the server and copy these files to another server. This step is also optional and provided as a backup to the directory and stores on the server.

6. If necessary, modify the name of all public folders to remove any spaces at the end of their name

7. If you have hidden mailboxes with permissions in the public folders, unhide them

This is an optional step and not required.

8. Run the DS/IS Consistency Adjuster to "Remove unknown user accounts from public folder permissions."

Use the Exchange Administrator program to select the server you wish to check. Select File, Properties from the menu bar to see the settings of this server. Use the Advanced tab to select the Consistency Adjuster.

Select the options as indicated to the left and click OK. Click OK to cycle through the warning and again when the process had ended. Check the event log for errors.
