Site Replication

Adding the site to the Organization

It is always a good idea to tell the Bridgehead servers not to replicate (automatically) after a reboot. Enter the following value to ensure that is the case.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / CurrentControlSet / Services / MSExchangeDS / Parameters
Value: Replicator inter site sync at Startup
Data type: REG_DWORD
Default: 1 (not present) Change this to zero and there is no automatic replication.

Use the appropriate site connector to connect this site to the existing org.

Directory Replication

The last step in the process is to set up the directory replication. From the Exchange Administrator program use the menu bar to select New, Other, Directory Replication Connector.

Establish the connector using appropriate settings for your org.

Summary

OK, I know this is a lot of information. There are a couple of points I wanted to really drive home:

  • An Exchange 5.5. re-org is not overly complicated, but it is exacting in the processes and order of execution.
  • Public Folder information can be ported from one org to another as long as the names of the owners do not change.
  • Outlook clients will need to modify their profiles in order to connect.
